With the IT boom and all companies related to technology heading for Pune and opening offices, the job market has been fantastic. IT professionals have been getting good salaries and raises. This has resulted in few professionals being interested in going to the US, since the work culture, the salary and the work itself is enriching.

The going has not been all that good for HR managers in IT companies. Attrition is high. Employee retention is the No 1 challenge. With more companies coming in, this becomes more and more difficult. The supply demand situation is extremely skewed. People nowadays shift jobs more for better work, than pay. Companies that still have mainframe projects as a major component fo their business are definitely seeing entry level employees leaving to work on more current software.

The jobs in the manufacturing sector too have shown an increase. There is going to be an investment of about Rs 800 crores in this field in the next few years.

MBA's too are getting a piece of the action. Business schools believe that salaries are getting steady and not increasing, but there definitely are more jobs out there.

Pune with it's vast number of educational institutes is definitely a good place for companies to look for fresh talent. A lot of engineers from the US are heading back and settling down in Pune. This has definitely added to the talent pool.

2006 definitely looks good for fresh talent as well as experienced people. IT companies are now going slow on entry level salaries, but the good news is that they are still hiring.
