The Pune University Campus is spread over a sprawling 400 acres and is worth visiting for a dekko for any tourist, especially in the early mornings and evenings.

Filled with greenery, this place is a haven for joggers and walkers who like to come here to enjoy the peace and quiet within the campus, although the place is hardly a minute away from the hustle and bustle of the main roads of the city. The beautifully maintained lawns and the magnificent trees that surround the majestic University building are a treat to the harried citizen and is a welcome break for people from all walks of life.

Established in the year 1949, the University campus is home to 46 academic departments.

The Pune University building was built for accommodating the governor of Mumbai when Pune became the government headquarters instead of Mumbai for a temporary period. The Gothic building where the main offices are located is truly magnificient and is reminiscent of the glorious past of the British era.

The campus is also creating news for becoming Wi-Fi and the University itself is the first university in Asia to become wire free.

The campus has a number of ecosystems that are a combination of evergreen patches, agricultural farmlands, dry lands, scrublands, and other landscapes that attract a number of birds. The flowers, butterflies and the colorful birds form a very beautiful collage of nature which is at its appealing best just at the start of the monsoons.

Many students and photo enthusiasts often come to the campus to get beautiful pictures of nature and its creatures.

The change of seasons is well reflected in the greenery that makes way for the cold winter and the wonderful spring flowers early in the year. A more beautiful heaven can rarely be found anywhere else.

The University campus is also locally known as Ganeshkhind. Located in the northwest part of Pune, this campus is about 8 kms away from Pune railway station and about 15 kms from Pune airport.
