Among the numerous natural picnic spots in Maharashtra that are closer to Pune, Mulshi has always been one of the favorites for many people in and around Pune. Located to the west of Pune about 30 kms away and close to the hill-station of Lonavala, Mulshi is a great getaway on a weekend. The famous Mulshi dam, which is used for generating hydroelectricity for Pune, is located here and the water from the reservoir is the life giver to the paddy fields in the surrounding areas. The natural beauty of the place is enhanced by the presence of the hills of the Sahyadri and its deep forests and the nearby forts such as Dhangad and Koraigadh. The forests nearby abound in wildlife and the beauty of the Mulshi Lake can be observed from Valanewadi, which is about 6 kms away from this spot. The high hills all around offer a breath taking view and one can enjoy boating if the weather stays fine. Work is being carried out to develop Mulshi into an even bigger entertainment and getaway spot.
