Now such doctors have started minting money by unscrupulous practices without disclosing their quota status and largely immigrant populations don?t know pats of these doctors.

Why public should avoid them

1. QUOTA doctors are generally poor quality doctors in knowlege, skills and morality. So one is more likely to be ovrecharged, undertreated, wronlgty treated and /or abused!!

2. QUOTA doctors tend to have nexus with criminals. Drug dealing, kidney rackets etc.orginates from lust of money by these quota doctors.

3. QUOTa doctors are generally not adequately insured. That means if I go to ophthalmic guy for eye complains and if I lose my eye, I am not entitled for any compensation as doctors would turn bankrupt!! Resident doctors and interns resumed duties in Delhi hospitals on Friday, but medical students boycotted classes protesting against the proposed move to hike OBC quota in educational institutions.

In a disturbing revelation, a survey of the prestigious Delhi University has found that a large number of SC/ST students suffer from stress and some are even resorting to smoking and substance abuse.

The survey conducted by Department of Adult, Continuing Education and Extension has found that SC/ST students who fail in competing with their high-scoring classmates are falling prey to depression, substance abuse and unprotected intercourse, apart from several psychological problems.

?With the reservation system, these students succeed in getting admission to high-profile colleges, but they usually fail in competing with students who come with higher marks and stronger backgrounds," said Professor N K Chaddha, head of the department.

Chaddha, who is also a psychologist, said the feeling of not doing well in the classroom spoils the self-confidence of the students, turning them towards loneliness, frustration and several other psychological problems.

The survey conducted through an informal interaction with a group of 300 students belonging to the SC/ST categories found that nearly 15 per cent students had started smoking to get rid of the stress caused due to sense of inefficiency.

Around 0.5 per cent students even took recourse to drugs and some of them were physically intimate with multiple partners. Expressing concern over these revelations, Chaddha said, ?unprotected physical relations can also make these students vulnerable to fatal diseases like HIV/AIDS.?

Keeping in view the problems being faced by the SC/ST students, Delhi University has come up with an assistance programme to help them cope with the challenges they face in the classroom and in life thereafter.

The University will organise a series of workshops to redress the problems of SC/ST students pertaining to communication skill, life skills and stress management. ?Students of the socio-economically disadvantaged sections require proper counselling to recognise their capacities and utilise them in a proper way,? said Chaddha, whose department will organise the workshops.

?The SC/ST students who generally come with lesser marks and relatively moderate educational backgrounds face a lot of problems after joining the University and other premier colleges. Their problems range from weaker communication skills to inferiority complexes and lack of confidence,? he said.

To begin with, the University has decided to conduct the programme for final year students. ?These are the students who will have to face the world in a short time, therefore we have chosen them for the pilot effort of the programme,? Chaddha said.

In the five-day programme, subjects related to decision-making, stress management, building communication skill and HIV/AIDS would be addressed by experts. The workshops, scheduled for the first week of February, will be conducted in five batches with 30 students in each batch.Because they are unlikley to get social recongnition amongs highre caste men/women-- sexual activity in closed group known as incest and poylgamous relationships are very common..
